April O’Keefe is a practicing herbalist who loves to facilitate fun, fact-filled workshops on the many ways people utilize herbs as food and medicine every day. Her grounded, practical approach to wellness reminds us that safe, effective relief from common ailments can often be found in our own backyards!
April is available for individual consults by appointment at Saco Healing Arts Center in Saco, Maine. She provides information and recommendations about general nutrition, supplements and herbal remedies.
Many of the plants used in her herbal practice are grown in her garden at home. April is a passionate gardener and an advocate for sustainable agriculture and nontoxic living. She is a proud member of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and the American Herbalist Guild.
April began her formal training in the art of traditional American herbalism with her mentor and friend, Debbie Mercier, at Greenwood Herbals in Limerick. She has done independent study at Clayton College of Natural Health, and currently studies under Madelon Hope and Tommy Preistler at the Boston School of Herbal Studies. April holds a Master of Education from Plymouth State University and a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science from Granite State College. She studied botany, horticulture, and soil science at Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute way back in the 1970’s.
